What Your Body Is Going Through
Swelling is almost guaranteed. It tends to peak around day 2 or 3, then slowly comes down. Your jaw, cheeks, and chin are the areas most likely to be affected. It can feel dramatic at first. It gets better.
Bruising often shows up alongside the swelling and follows a similar timeline. It can look pretty bad before it starts to fade — that's okay. It's part of how the body heals. This can also range in extremity - some patients have severe bruising while some have almost none at all.
Pain and soreness are real, and your care team knows that. You won't go home without aftercare instructions and, when needed, a prescription to help keep things manageable (though most patients report managing just fine with tylenol and ibuprofen).
Numbness in certain spots is common while the area is healing. Nerves take time to settle after surgery. It typically fades on its own, though it can take a few weeks.
Fatigue is something a lot of patients underestimate. Surgery wears your body out. Resting is an important part of the recovery process.
About Your New Teeth - Adjustments or Repairs
Sometimes a patient needs a small adjustment to their fit or bite after surgery. Your mouth is unique, and as you start using your new smile, minor tweaks occasionally come up. That's normal.
Breakage is rare — zirconia is tough stuff — but it can happen. If you find yourself with a breakage just after surgery, your team can fix it.

Pain that keeps getting worse after the first few days instead of improving

You don't need a dramatic reason to call. Feeling uncertain is reason enough.
